I woke up this morning, looked in the mirror and smiled. It was nice to do so, set a great mood before I trudged off to school for my Electronic and Broadcast Media mid-term quiz. Gosh. Thinking back on it, it was so dumb. Smiling in the mirror before a quiz that I hardly prepared for. I guess I deserved it.

Crazy week ahead. Marketing presentation tomorrow which I haven’t really prepared yet. Prometheus meeting on Wednesday night, and the script’s not done. Information Literacy assignment which constitutes 25% of my final grade due on Friday, also not started yet. I was really looking forward to this fresh start after the recess week so that I could get myself down to business and serious work but it’s all piling up too fast. Faster than I can handle.

Just feel like going away somewhere for a while.

Life is but an endless pursuit. Teach me what to do before End comes and consumes me.

Recess week

It’s recess week. Time to relax haha, but not like I haven’t been relaxing enough during school. Have decided to start working harder after this week cos exams are approaching in about 5-6 weeks. Shit la, I don’t even know what I’ve learnt this sem so far. How to go for exams.. Lots of deadlines coming up, this sem every module is kind of project-based and each of my six modules has like 2 major projects. Totally impossible to cope.

Went for KTV at Marina Square with the gang from CS. It was fun, but as usual, there wasn’t much I could do cos I don’t really sing Chinese songs and the English songs are just too cheesy.

Tuesday evening was dinner at Gladys’ house. She organised a steamboat for Wilson’s birthday and to my surprise, it was also an early birthday celebration for me. Really early cos my birthday is like 2 weeks away. So kind of unexpected. It was real nice la especially cos it was such a surprise. Haha, no wonder Gladys so willingly organised it cos I’m usually the one calling everyone up for dinner. Thanks to everyone who were there: Gladys, Yuanting, Kenny, Kelvin, Jeremy, Wilson, Jieren, Jiali and Abel. In case, you’re wondering why I’m thanking myself, it’s actually Jeremy Toh, one of my buddies with the same name haha.

Went to MOS yesterday with my hall ppl to club. Ironic cos I didn’t really like it there the last time I went but I guess this time what made it different was the music and the atmosphere. It’s really different on a weekday cos they play retro music, much like the Mambo Nite at Zouk. So it’s a lot livelier than techno or trance. Everyone also dances better to retro music I guess. It was loads of fun yesterday.. Left around 3.30am.

AMAZING

One word. AMAZING.

This is the only word I can use to describe this play. Went to watch it on Sunday at the Drama Centre, National Library. Credit to the cast for portraying very accurately the emotions of the script, the director for his vision in putting together a great script, and of course the 5 playwrights for one of the best local scripts I’ve come across. Totally amazing. As the audience, I was awed by the witty dialogue and smart play of words. It was a roller coaster ride for the audience as the emotions interweaved with each other. Superb acting allowed the audience to enter the situation and laugh and cry with the characters. It was great.

Broadway Beng!

Went to watch this musical today with Alvin S. It was nice, refreshing cos none of the stand-up musical comedies I have watched have been like this. Haha. I didn’t really understand all the jokes though cos three-quarters of it was in Hokkien, which I don’t have much interaction with. But it was damn good lah.

Feeling so inspired for Prometheus Productions now.. Haha.

Hung out at Coffee Club with Alvin and Charmaine after the show.. It was great to get away from school work and the stress from all the project deadlines.

Epiphanies ain’t cheap

Mixed feelings this Lunar New Year for me.

I must be the most untraditional Chinese around because I do not go visiting. One reunion dinner is about the only “Chee-na” thing that is marked on my calendar. But this year, it was kind of weird having a reunion dinner while my Ah-Gong was in hospital. That really defeated the purpose of the dinner because that’s why we make the effort to meet up for dinner in the very first place. Secondly, the whole ang-bao issue: I do not receive any ang-bao income at all because it’s never been a practice to go visiting relatives and in fact, we usually escape to Malacca where we have an apartment there by the Straits to avoid crowds.

In hindsight, being Chinese created quite a lot of problems for me back in primary school. Woah, before you think that it’s a real serious problem I’m referring to, well not really. Back in school, we had to write essays about qing ming jie (tomb-sweeping) and duan wu jie (dumpling festival). It proved really difficult for me because I had completely no idea what these Chinese festivals and traditional stuff were about. Come to think of it, I still don’t.. Well, I do take some consolation that I am not mainstream like all other Chinese people I know. On the other hand, at least u guys earn a tidy sum each year.

Bleah, Lunar New Year’s this year was totally boring.

Ok, on a completely different note. I have an assignment about Radio in Singapore due in a couple of hours and I’m sort of stuck at the first paragraph. And I have about 8 pages to go. And later in the day, I have to head to Holland V to interview a tattooed ITE student as part of my project.. And back to school to play contract bridge. My life seems so trivial huh, like I have nothing remotely serious enough to do other than playing bridge. I’m onto my 2nd cup of Nescafe 3-in-1 instant coffee. And starting to talk, type rather, nonsense.

Caught Cold Mountain for probably the 99th time on cable. When I first watched it in the cinema, I loved it. I really liked the way the civil war was portrayed in this film and although the whole romance bit wasn’t too convincing, it was alright overall. Watching it now just makes me queasy when Nicole Kidman and Jude Law think of each other. Yucks. Gimme gimme gimme Renee Zellweger. Haha, she was the spark. Movie wouldn’t be as superb without her. I think after her entrance to the show, the comic factor goes way up and makes the whole show alot easier on the viewer (bearing in mind it was a 3hr show).

Argh, the month of Feb is gonna be a killer la. Especially the first two weeks. I hate assignments and reports! @#$%^
