The Sad Truth

31 01 2006

I was on the bus to school that day and I saw that TV Mobile is celebrating their 5th anniversary this year. How ironic that Singapore proclaims to want to be No. 1 in everything and tries its very best to keep with Hong Kong, Japan, Korea etc. yet they will forever lag behind when it comes to technology. Sure, we ought to be proud of the whole biomedical and silicon wafer sectors, but when it comes to the media, I’m sorry to say that Singapore is way off the leaderboard. 5th anniversary and I don’t see improvements to the reception of TV Mobile. “Mobile” being the hugest irony here.

It is not very encouraging every time my Profs talk about how we are going to be at the forefront of the media industry, and decide the future of Media21. I find it really hard to envision Singapore turning into a media hub. In my opinion, Singapore has always and probably will always rely on others to succeed.

some pics of how i spent my new year’s eve. went to the airport to fetch gladys and then yuanting, kenny and i had dinner at east coast lagoon food village and then we intentionally got stuck along the jam on sheares bridge so that we could watch the fireworks during the countdown… the extent some people go just to witness the countdown huh..

went clubbing at ministry of sound on saturday, it was sheares hall’s bash so we got tickets cheap.. ok i went without expectations but it didn’t turn out to be that fun after all. it was super crowded and the music was disappointing. only good part was catching up with gladys, kelvin, wilson, yuanting, kenny and their friend, joseph.. hmm maybe i am more of a pub person..

spotted this at the basement of shaw near the outdoor mac cafe, and thought it was interesting =)

a little late for new dawnings?

13 01 2006

i was just at a meeting for my hall production just now and it only dawned on me that i am behind schedule and that everyone is banking on me to decide the script before they can go ahead and do their work. cos as long as i have not decided which play i want to do, they can’t start publicity, nor props, nor venue booking nor casting nor anything. ok huge dawning.

2nd one was i have been forecasting my future with such glee, anticipating the time when i can go on exchange next year, decide what division to major in, and moving out of hall end of this year and moving back in again when i’m year 4 and the thing is, i can’t even get started this semester to get down to preparing for lectures and tutorials. sure, its only the 2nd week of school and there’s only 12 more weeks before my exams come again. tell me what can go faster than that. i chuck the ‘now’ out of my head so that i can concentrate on the future, which is far less important, seriously speaking.

my room is in a state of serious mess. i dun even dare to post a picture of it. textbooks everywhere, loose sheets of lecture scribblings on my desk, oboe reeds strewn on my shelf, my bed’s never made (since i mess it up every night anyway). the mess in my room is just not going anywhere if i dun do anything abt it.

and, my sleeping pattern is bad. real real bad.

it really is time to impose some rules on myself and hopefully keep to them.

official announcement: i’m going to book tickets to west side story, showing in singapore april. let me know if u are interested! I HAVE 20% DISCOUNT, ALL YOU KIASU SINGAPOREANS!.
